Overview

Denbighshire Weather is a free, independent weather service for Denbighshire. This page explains what data is collected when you use the site, how it is used, and your rights under UK GDPR.

What data we collect

We collect as little data as possible. Specifically:

  • Location (town selection): When you select a Denbighshire location, the coordinates for that town are used to fetch weather data. This is not stored or linked to you personally.
  • Language preference: Your choice of English or Welsh may be stored in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it on your next visit. This stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.
  • Server logs: Our hosting provider (Hostinger) automatically logs basic request data such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited. These logs are used for security and performance monitoring only.

What we do not collect

  • We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics platform.
  • We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
  • We do not ask for your name, email address, or any personal details unless you choose to submit feedback.
  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Feedback

If you submit feedback via our feedback page, any information you include (such as your name or email, if you choose to provide them) is used only to respond to your message. We do not store feedback submissions beyond what is needed to respond.

Third-party data sources

Weather and environmental data is fetched from external APIs via our server-side proxy. Your browser communicates only with our server — not directly with these third parties. Sources include:

  • Open-Meteo (weather, marine, air quality)
  • Met Office (weather warnings)
  • Natural Resources Wales (flood warnings)
  • AuroraWatch UK (aurora alerts)
  • Traffic Wales (road conditions)
  • Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (pollen and air quality)

Cookies

This site does not use tracking or advertising cookies. We may use browser local storage to remember your language preference (English or Welsh). You can clear this at any time via your browser settings.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Know what data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of any data we hold
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

Because we collect so little data, most of these rights will not apply in practice — but please contact us if you have any concerns.
